A Revolutionary Christmas In Rhythm & Rhyme - A Comic Poem
65My Xmas Poem For Kids... For Big Kids Too!
I wrote this Christmas poem in 1999 just for a laugh - it can be quite fun if you start reading it out aloud quite slowly, progress to fast and furious in the middle, then slow down again as you reach the end. Xmas Cheers To All.
There once was a chappie called Santa
Who carried the slogan, his mantra?
"To be better than best
Above all the rest
Provide quality toys
For all girls and boys".
Now this chappie called Santa
Dressed in red, with no antler,
worked all year long
supplying requests and
reading bequests.
His business was thriving
with letters arriving from
all over the world.
But his winters were dark.
His nights long,
His summers just short bursts
of cheerful song.
So to balance his act
the hot with the cold,
he decided to get shot
of the lot.
He sold off,
outsourced his ideas
to a local spot.
The new Firm was called "Paws"
Prancer, Dancer and Son,
who, by dint of their jaws
plus publicity ads.
yearly conducted
enormous sky races.
to various places far flung.
Their efforts unsung
and trembling with pride,
they flew high and wide,
passing all in their stride.
Where with slather and might
they raced taut and tight
to deliver on time
great joy and delight.
But then.......,
one day the man from Transport arrived.
And he said,
"The reindeers are to be unionised
Their names equalised
The workshop politicised
Toys globalised.
Make everyone the same
It’s cheaper that way.
Rationalise the elves
Do away with the fairies
The gnomes have to go.
No matter they have no homes
but here - where they work long hours
in ice, sleet and snow".
You’ll take a number
For a toy for Down Under
A game for the boys
"Sheer Drudgery"
The girls a doll
"Cumgudgery"
Deliveries will be made
through weather asunder.
A tough trade
for the Subies at the pole,
all striving to meet
budgets, production and flow.
Well........,
their revolt was hard
their revolt was long.
became International
as reindeers irrational
raced over roof tops and back.
Polarised they broke with convention.
sought intervention.
From the top.
From the Man.
"Clause" Himself.
He intervened
contravened the orders
from Transport.
Took over.
Re-engaged his staff
elves, fairies and dwarves
who just for a laugh
stowed away in the
beak of a stork,
on a Christmas push
to visit the land.
Both urban and bush.
They lurked,
looked and listened,
enjoyed green space
with the human race.
Relished old ways
Not user pays.
Enjoyed Christmas at a slower pace.

I don't think you are alone in that Ajcor, once life was simple, until the business of making money was the sole driving force, not providing goods, service or even value, just making money out of money.
Sorry, I get like that, it does bug me.
Have a great day
It sounds as if it is just as bad as over here. Banks grabbing entire salaries as soon as it gets paid in, quickly adding there charges and start dunning you for the rest.
Debt consolidators are the in profesion to be in right now!
Not pretty, kids going to school without having a breakfast even.
Good Night to you, only 2pm here.
I liked your creative Christmas hub. By the way your dog is just too cute, the avatar one I mean.
Hello AJcor, Hello Harriett, Hello Humphrey! I hope you all a kinder, more gently paced holiday in 2008. Fun, fun hub!
A very fun poem with a strong message. You're very creative. Thanks for sharing your creativity with us folks!
An Eco warrior in our midst however if we don't have someone to prick us every now and then, we might just get too complacent and then forget that we are only the custodeans of this world.
This was fun, and, with message well delivered still managed to be funny and light. Great work finding the balance.

Brilliant an absolutly brilliant hub. Would life in general if we could all step back and evaluate the past, and then return to the best times.
