Does Anyone Write And Publish Poetry Here?
69Hubber Poets - A rundown for those who like to read poetry!
To answer the above request regarding the question as to whether there is anyone who writes poetry on hub pages the answer is a resounding YES! But I will initially state that this hub is just for "our" poets - those poets who put pen to paper to produce poetry on hubpages. So in short, there are many varied and gifted writers of poetry writing right here on the hubpage site. As an aside though it is always interesting to see that prose is usually regarded as the better read !
There are the writers who have been writing poetry consistently through the years and I guess this shows through as they are both practised and intent on mastering their gifts.. There are also poets who show huge talent plus enormous potential and whose words are incredibly emotive and thought provoking.. Fantastic wordsmiths all. These translators of the inner world are the purveyors of words which create instant emotion and recoqnition of the minutiae, the angst and whimsy in their respective lives. I sometimes feel that poets can be seen as the "explainers" of the turmoil amd the joy, the people who in simple language can and often do, provide clarity in a few well chosen words.
Let me begin by saying that when Lita Sorenson started a "Random Poetry Challenge" (RPC) a number of weeks ago, many poets came out into the open and published their beautiful pieces of work in answer to the Challenge. So for your edification I will inform you of a number of these poets - although should I miss some of them please feel free to update me and I will then include them in this hub.
The first Poet to spring to mind would be Lita Sorenson (the writer who posted the Random Poetry Challenge/RPC, and then generously opted into read the entries as they arrived.I Lita posted a most beautiful and emotive poem called For Beauty Is Nothing But The Begining Of Terror ( Found phrase) after Rilke. And from the comment section of this hub I found the following words re. her insightful thoughts on poetic license " I think the beauty of poetry is that it can have many interpretations and they can all be right".
The second person I name would be Cris A who writes in the language poetic, tenderly and honestly of loves lost. And not only is he a talented writer but he is also most generous in his support of other writers.
Then there is Amanda Severn who published the following link in answer to Lita's Randon Poetry Challenge. Her poem about butterflys beautifully addresses day one of the RPC, the topic of which was The Love of Broken Things. http://hubpages.com/hub/Poetry-Challenge-Day-One-The-Love-of-Broken-Things. followed by Random Poetry Challenge Day 11: Colours in Joy, Racing Silks on horse-racing, and then Poetry Challenge Day 13: Dust! (Black Lung Disease) Breath In, Breathe deep ...........
Christoph Reilly produced a brilliant poem on Dr.Seuss "Does Dr. Seuss Count" which very cleverly supports an undercurrent -an internal discussion that courses it's way throughout - a poem within a poem - it is truly entertaining, lots of fun, "Clever diction, clever rhymes, clever rhythm" (thanks for this comment Teresa!)
And what about the inimitable poet/writer Teresa McGurk who submitted her energetically clever poem "Making It Fit" to the RPC - Teresa also submitted a poem called "Abstract Red" which is in the Spanish language. Being an Australian, I find this so impressive because coming from an island nation we are basically very insular in this regard, and in the main only speak one language.
From Uninvited Writer comes an example of her poetry which she used in the RPC- a strong poem using the topical word "Red" which unfortunately she has now removed from our readership.
From Heather Now we have a cleverly constructed poem "Etched" on love and loss This poem speaks of maturity, the marks of pain and a pure form of revenge ..http://hubpages.com/hub/day1poem
and the talented poetryman69 wrote "Rainbows In The Gutter" , his poem inspired by his meditation on the colour teal -http://hubpages.com/hub/Rainbows-in-the-Gutter
and of course there is Melissa G's very thought provoking and sustainingly beautiful poem called The Love of Broken Things. http://hubpages.com/hub/Poetry-challenge-The-love-of-broken-things
and what about Nicole Winter's teenage poetry - great example of the stages in life when we follow through on the "writing it out theory"...How many times do you hear people say it was good for me to get it down on paper and out of my system! http://hubpages.com/hub/Teenage-Poetry-II
and here is a poem written by Dinamars through an online poetry club about a family and their father - a sailor.....http://hubpages.com/hub/Love-Poetry-Diamonds-Of-The-Sea
So many poets already and I doubt I have even broken the surface of the talent we have access to here on the hubpages.....So in answer to your query there really is no need to go elsewhere to find poets or indeed, other sites to publish your work on!
From CrisA I have been advised of the following poets so over the next few days I will update you on their current work on hubpages and link you to their poems.. Thanks CrisA - most appreciated! In his comment he tells me of the following poets whose works I have not yet had the pleasure of reading.."In the course of my hunting expeditions, I have encountered the beautiful poetry of barranca, benjimester, franciaonline, russ baleson, jugglingcroutons and roastedpinebark to name those that appear at the top of my head at the moment. But I'm sure that are many others who have been encouraged by the ongoing poetry vibe. "
c.c.ritter a man who in "I Looked Into The Sun" seeks answers from both the enviro. and capitalist harbingers of grief with such phrases as "Greed and corruption, capital gains, who gets this land? And where are my returns? Who is right? Which is wrong?"
and the work of barranca features next in our Poetry hubpage line up - his poem on attaining a new age "Turning Sixty" comes from the heart and can be found at http://hubpages.com/hub/poem-turning-sixty
For your poetic benefit; benjimester is our next hubpage poet with his philosophical, appreciative and evocative poem "A Walk". Sometimes when I read beautiful and appreciative words about Nature I feel "we are nature and nature is us" and that we have to ensure we tread carefully for fear of disturbing, ergo destroying, too much as we go forward ..
russ baleson's hub is a Haiku, a structured short poem written within strict guidelines - Basho was a great proponent of this type of poetry - and while it is fun to write - be warned not as easy as it looks - http://hubpages.com/hub/Topical-Haiku
an up and coming young writer to watch would be jugglingcroutons who in his poem "He's Bipolar" takes the reader on a journey of living through just one day whilst in the clutches of this "other" dimension. This poem is realism at it's best. http://hubpages.com/hub/Hes-Bipolar
roastedpinebark writes from his soul and through his words are past echoes of many a young man's fight, supplication, victory and finally recoqnition of self and spirituality. His words resonate with "The dark night sky spreads like a sea, A sea of endless, long forgotten song" .
and what about Tom Rubenoff - a marvellous writer of the haiku; a short form of poetry which originated in Japan. - he is also a poet who shares his words via the poetry reading, and through his poetry blog at wordpress: http://ploughhorse.wordpress.com
I received a link from sheenarobbins for Am I Dead Yet? 's poetry - to read more about this poet's emotional journey through life, please go his/her poetry filled hub. The link I am posting here is called My Prayer; a dreamlike journey that travels from despair to joy;from complete stillness to a dancing of the heart..
This morning Paul Edmondson advised me to read Drax - the unofficial official poet of the hub - the link to his rather brilliant poem about discipline and today's child is http://hubpages.com/hub/poem114
I have just read of two more poets to join the ranks of hub page poets
TheRealTruth who writes of the dark side in a most compelling and strong fashion - he can be read at http://hubpages.com/hub/The-Real-Truth--Unknown-Ailment-Edition
amd Blondepoet - a fellow Australian who has written a poem as a tribute to all those people who died has a direct result of the appalling bushfires that have just swept through Victoria, causing immense devastation and loss - the link to read her poem is http://hubpages.com/hub/A-TRIBUTE-TO-THOSE-WHO-PERISHED-IN-VICTORIAS-BUSHFIRE
and there is the poetry of Aileen who publishes her poetic works and is to be found at http://hubpages.com/profile/Poetry+of+Aileen
Coolbreezing has just written and published many pieces and this poem is but one of his works on Cheating Wives at the following link http://hubpages.com/hub/acheatedwife. Coolbreezing
From tonymac04 comes the following examples of his poetry - his words in the first poem promote a feeling of personal well being while both pieces create a sense of "being" through his use of great imagery. The link to his work is http://hubpages.com/hub/Two-short-poems.
and another poet I have just chanced upon who writes both prose and narrative poetry, is one Frieda Babley. Her first work a piece of poetic prose hits the spot most descriptively and I believe that we can all identify with her basic premise of "the why and what if" - to read Frieda's work go to the link at http://hubpages.com/hub/Two-Poems.
and my latest hubber poet find is Randy Behavior who in this link publishes her poem Hubber Crush - http://hubpages.com/hub/Hubber-Crush-poem She skillfully weaves the most beautiful and sensuous words together into a plot of interesting dimensions; which is currently causing a bit of a stir amongst the writers on the hub as to whose writing she is referring. It's all a bit of a mystery that will probably never be solved!

i'm waiting for the punchline...you know what will happen next if there is none! :D LOL
ajcor
and i forgot to mention C.C. Riter :D
Hey AJ, great job with this compilation! I'm bookmarking this for future reference!
ag, sure thing, give us a kiss! (not too close)
I C YR ONLEE A LITTLE b.
In my youth, obtuse, I used iambic pentameter.
Now in latter years, unclear,
I use Kiplingesque dis-remember.(eg) -
In the Hubolithic age,
When rhyming couplets where the rage,
I was avant garde
Without regard to footage.
Now when footing with the best ,
I admit I just detest
Finding a bloody word to rhyme with "footage"
Why, ajcor: thank you for the lovely mention, here! I have to confess, though, that my Spanish isn't all that impressive, so I'm not really sure I could live up to your terrific compliment! Neat hub, though -- nice to have links to everyone's work in the same place. thanks.
Hi Annie
Thank you for including me in your roll of honour. I have to agree that the traffic to my poems is far less than to my other hubs, but at least our fellow poetry lovers are all in the loop now, whereas poetry did use to linger unloved in the dusty, cobwebby corners of hubpages. It's great to raise the profile of poetry in general. We have some big talents here on the hub and it's good to share.
This is totally irrelevant; this is a good time to be........! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slHfV7yNeXs
Irrelevance is sometimes comforting.
Hey... thanks for the shout-out ... I appreciate it! 'Twas fun taking a look at everyone's poetry on here, there are some really talented writers on Hub Pages and I love being lumped in with the rest of them. (*grin*)
another one ajcor. Am I dead, yet? that's not a question, it's the hubber's hubbername LOL :D
No one writes any poems here
Instead they cower in rhymeless fear
And silently avoid semblence of form
Amid the mirrors of prosey norm
No one pens simile or metaphor
As non-poetically on the floor
They lie like rugs and ragged mats
Unable to tell their thisses from thats
ajcor, you did some great research here. Does Dr. Suess Count is my favorite, but you come in a very close second!!!! Write one about the Wind in the Willows, would you? :-))))
Ajcor, Thanks very much for putting this together and for your mention of one of my poems. It's really an amazing thing to be a part of this community that loves the finer things in life.
ag, the nursery rhymes were beautifully enunciated. Ah, the memories it brought back of tales I heard on my mother's knee, and other low joints. (Sigh!)
By the bye, I wasn't casting aspidistras at Harriet, she looks an adorable little bitch, the little b I alluding to was in your' title.
Cheeri Bye,

aj, sorry about the typos
Here's a link to John Stanley, a poet of note. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQA6tBYAvms&fea
I've met Ted Kooser. He's from Nebraska as am I more or less. Your hub is a longer list than I expected.
Hi, ajcor! I am surprised and honored to be included in the roll of HubPages poets! Thanks for compiling this. It's a valuable resource for those seeking poetry on HubPages! Thank you!
I like some of his poems. He has a way of capturing the Nebraska landscape and people that is appealing.
I was gonna say Cris A! Cris A! and shout his name from the top of my lungs and then Am I Dead Yet also publishes poetry. I read it and it's not necessary for me to shout their names because the hub is already promoting our very own talents.
Oh, How I love this community. Everybody supports evrybody. So when are we going to traditionally publish one of our own? Perhaps, we can celebrate from different parts of the world then.
:)
I used to do poetry, but was always too shy to share on the web. : (
Eventually I'll get over my little fear... but I haven't done poetry is sooo very long. No inspirations going on in life at the moment. hehe.
Hi ajcor,
Here is the link to Am I Dead Yet's profile. It's all poetry. http://hubpages.com/profile/Am+I+dead%2C+yet%3F :)
Your Welcome! :)
One of the problems with posting poetry here is that it tends to get mangled by adverts, etc. Also, single poem hubs quickly disappear from the ratings. I've posted a few, but in many ways the site is not suited to poetry. Pity :)
I wanted to thank you for the mentioning of my work in your hub. Much appreciated :)
Actually the one I wanted to hear about Wind in the Willows had more to do with another of your hubs and why you watch public speeches.......
If you haven't found Drax on here, you should check him out. He's the official unofficial HubPages poet.
Aww thanks so much for your mention of me in your terrific hub.I am honoured.I look forward to reading poetry from the other links you have mentioned. Thanks again
aj! thank you so much for including my name amongst the skyscrapers as it were. id like to say more but i've apparantly got some reading to do. thanks again.
In most part of Africa, in some countries of the Caribbean, before we tell a story to the audience or enter someone home, we address them by saying honor! In a way the speaker is looking for approval before he delivers the story, it shows courtesy and respect. Obviously, if the listeners don't respond back by saying “RESPECT” they're not willing to hear your story or poetry. It is a way for the speaker to introduce himself to the audience before he/she begins the story. In Island like Haiti, the speaker says “CRICK!” and the audience respond “CRACK!” What I've just mentioned to you here is part of African literature, in fact most of my poetry and thoughts that I've posted on hub page & helium can very well be part of African literature. As you should notice, under all the Reflections titles, you'll notice an introduction before I began to reveal my thoughts to the audience. It is to show respect and honor as I bond myself with the audience and those that comes before us which are among us. Since a majority of people on hub page are European decent, it is possible that most may not know what I mean when I say. “When I say respect, you say honor ……respect! …..honor.” Thanks for promoting my work, I will surly check some of those poets on hub page.
Hi AJ - what a great Hub! I am also a "poet" - I feel a bit reticent about calling myself that as I have not written that many pieces that I would call "poems" really. A few more to come though.
And thanks for joining my fan club!
Love and peace
Tony
Thanks for adding me to your hub ajcor! I honored to be amongst the other writers on this page. I love that you've compiled this list for us. Now all this poetry is easy pickins'.
I want to thank Sheena and Chris A for mentioning me, and thank you (again) so much for listing my Hub here on your page. I am honored to be mentioned here among the great Hubbers here. Wonderfull collection of poets here.
Ajcor have you done an updated version of this hub? The inventory of poets on HP has shifted considerably and like the rest of HP GROWN! What do you think, time for an update?
Food and poetry, two of my most favorite things :)
What was the film about... maybe my third thing was there too! (jk)

It is only now that i have realized that HP houses a wonderful pool of gifted and inspiring homegrown poets. I remember when I started out here 4 months back that nobody seemed to be noticing my poor poems! LOL. I also hunted down other poets and only found a few. But my lord how times have changed! I remember Amanda saying that there's a whole poetry vibe going and she's liking it and of course I agreed!
In the course of my hunting expeditions, I still do so, I have encountered the beautiful poetry of barranca, benjimester, franciaonline, russ baleson, jugglingcroutons and roastedpinebark to name those that appear at the top of my head at the moment. But I'm sure that are many others who have been encouraged by the ongoing poetry vibe.
Thanks for including me in your mentions. To be in the same league as you and the poets you have mentioned above flatters me pink :D
