An Australian Horror Snake Story

This time the story occurs in 2007 in the country region in NSW. Now while I heard that this is a true story - in my heart I hope it is not.

There was a lady who had a pet snake, a python; we'll call it Monty, because I never actually heard what it was really named.

Now she really loved her Monty python. petted it, gave it the run of her house, sometimes it even slept in her bed. She was incredibly fond of this animal.

You may find this hard to believe; but there are people out there who truly love these creatures. I personally think that while they are beautiful they are terrifying!

Well....... Monty Python became unwell, generally off colour , off his food , and had started to do really peculiar things that he had never done before; such as when she was lying down, stretching himself alongside her - stretching out to his full length.

Unsure of these changes in poor old Monty's behaviour, the loving owner took him along to her Vet., and explained her pet's strange change in personal habits.

The Vet immediately told the distraught owner to say good bye to Monty - she was never getting him back. His change in habit was easily explainable.

What Monty was actually doing was carrying out a personal assessment of her as a future meal - indeed measuring her length to see if she would fit.

Personally, I think that is one of the most awful stories I have ever heard.

Better off with a cat or a dog me thinks!

I knew I should not have trusted that Snake. Drat it!

I wonder if i can get my money back from the Snake man?

The answer was no, He was seen heading north 3 hours ago.

I guess one can not have everything.

The snake was condemned a long time ago in the Garden of Eden.

Still next time I see that friendly snake I will make out it is a nice old chap with a different skin to me.

I like this hub

Holy crap, ok, I'm crying. I mean, I realize Monty Python carried this hub for you, but it was amusing to start and, enough to make me get my headphones out and actually click the video. Jezus. That's hilarious. I'll be forwarding your hub all over.

He was off color and off his food - what? Was he fasting before the big feast? Imagine the snake sleeping in her bed, she fast asleep and suddenly - slurp. Best it be head first, what d'you think. less painful?

Jewels, thanks, I think that there could be no going back if it was head first - no options so to speak - better one leg at a time - maybe a dead leg as opposed to a sucked head!

ROTHFLMAO! LOL! and all that jazz. I am speechless. I've been laughing for the last five minutes. My eyes burn and my nose is running.

Your last comment sent me over the edge. I do so dearly wish for my own trained python to, at my command, suck the heads off certain people I know.

Fantastic! And I haven't even watched all the videos. Time to pour a little Scotch here and enjoy the rest of the show.

Your fan, Sally

I am horrified of snakes....one of my few phobias.  I have taken over the management of a property and the previous manager was a snake lover, and had them in the apartment here. Where i NOW live.  The smell and mess was so bad they had to remodel.  A few weeks after we got here, a customer found the previous manager's missing python.  He ran over it with his truck....

The couple had these things in the apartment in aquariums in their bedroom, all over the place.

Gives me the creeps.  so do these videos!!!!  Great hub tho, and I agree, a cat or do is so much better.  If that snake had hurt me or my dog.....grrrrr

thanks Sally's Trove - life can be quite funny - as long as we are not too close to the source; so to speak - actually a trained "sucking off people's heads" python could be quite a goer - in purely a business sense of course.Would travel well - tucked away out of sight!

You know "Python For Hire". Does special tricks: to heads in particular. Great idea. enjoy your scotch - salud

marisuewrites -i join you in your phobia- and i sincerely nothing hope that the smell in yr apt. is all gone now. and even sometimes....(all you snake lovers out there pls don't damn me but recoqnise that it is a case of each to their own) dare I say it...sometimes,(get on with it girl!) i even think that dead, but undamaged pythons make great shoes! much better where you can see them! out in the open. cheers and thanks for your comment.

This story has been circulating for quite some time, it's utter BS.

A python isn't going to size up a meal, it'll hit it, coil it and try eat it. If it can't, it leaves it.

Even if there is any truth to the story, the reasoning for the snakes behaviour is rediculous, and whatever vet gave out that information should not be treating snakes as they obviously have no idea.

Sorry to be the one to criticise... but come on.....

well disasterpiece I take it from your comment that you must be an expert on snake behavioural patterns....fact is I heard this story from a lady here in my home town who actually knew the person to whom this supposedly occurred....maybe even the odd snake exhibits abberant behavour...thanks for your comment anyway....cheers

Thanks prasetio30 sorry to be so tardy in answering your comment - been really ill with the swine flu (3rd time it has returned this winter) - not a happy person! I agree we do seem to have some of the worst snakes living here in Australia - I would not want to get too close either!! cheers

This story is NOT true. The reason someone heard it from someone they knew is because the same story is being attributed to many people. It's usually someone's sister, cousin, etc. The snake is a boa, python, or even an anaconda! Anacondas can't be purchased as pets! Check snopes.com for many reasons it's not true.

Thanks Lisa - I knew once someone who brought an anaconda into Australia ( definitely not a native of Australia) and it ended up at the local university being cared for there because it wouldn't eat after it was bitten by it's breakfast - one of the live mice brought in at timed intervals for the snake's repast - so it lost weight etc and had to be cared away from its' previous owner. However to get back to the point of this story - it was the local community nurse who told me this story and she actually knew the woman! and what makes snopes.com the harbinger of truth..however I will ask her next time I see her if she was just pulling our collective legs...thanks for your comment - cheers.

Daniel Roberts 2 years ago

It's not true. As has been said before, it strikes, coils and eats. A python wouldn't "size" up a meal. It's a very entertaining story but it hit my shores (UK) around the same time. My friend told me it was their friend's cousin, it's been told on various radio shows here (Adam & Joe, Russell Brand) and it's just innacurate! So there's no need to worry! :D

Thank Daniel Roberts for commenting- glad to hear that this story hit your shores at about the same time as Aus. and has been repeated many times by "reliable" people...... me being one I guess.....

Australian Brown Snake

There are several types of brown snakes but the Pseudonaja is the genus commonly found in Australia. Known as one of Australia’s most deadly creatures, the brown snake has a venom which quickly kills if it goes untreated. Even young snakes are capable of delivering a fatal bite to humans.
